10,000 square yards of asphalt went down at the Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, just in time for the 37th Annual Sikh Parade. Over 80,000 people attend this 4.5 mile parade. Sikhism, the world’s fifth most popular religion, is a monotheistic faith that believes in equality and service to others, Sikh officials say. It’s important to note that Sikhs wear turbans and so some may confuse them with other religions. But Sikhs are very kind, compassionate and loving people.
“Everyone is the same,” says Raghunandan Johar, president of the Guru Nanak Mission of Atlanta. “There is no distinction, no caste system.” Navdeep Singh, a policy adviser to the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, says Sikhs believe in freedom of religion, community service and inclusiveness.
